AI and all things related to it have continued to take center stage in conversations across industries and sectors. We’re excited to learn more about AI and the implications it has for cybersecurity. In RSAC’s 2025 Trends Report, they cover emerging trends in AI and what this means for the future of our industry. Some key areas that stick out are:
- LLMs – these are all the rage, but are they creating new risks? According to this year’s session submissions for the RSAC Conference, there are big hopes and justifiable prudence around implementing LLM-powered tools – with more cautious practitioners noting that these tools can introduce vulnerabilities into security products. There is the potential for these models to be poisoned or weaponized, which raises the question of accuracy. As such, according the RSAC’s report, we can expect sessions exploring the role of Retrieval Augmented Generation-based applications, which will secure workflows to mitigate risks in data retrieval, and ensure the correct information is being used to build systems.
- AI Assistants – another growing trend is the personification of technology. New tools are blurring the lines between tasks humans can do and those that machines are capable of. There is an increased risk of insider threat that stems from common misconfigurations. The conference plans to include sessions that discuss the implications of over-reliance on AI-generated code and how it can lead to quality, security, and maintainability issues.
- API Risks – innovation is changing the overall threat landscape, which impacts an organization’s overall security strategy. With the increased use of LLMs and Generative AI comes increased concern for API security. RSAC will feature sessions with solutions for protecting APIs, securing network APIs for 5G, and comprehensive API security tools for GenAI/LLM applications.
